Can jinns possessed animals?

We sometimes have raccoons coming into our backyard. Last night a raccoon was passing by and I think it was possessed. It was making this loud growling noise not a natural raccoon sound. I was wearing headphones and I can hear it from distance away. My dad is a heavy sleeper but it woke my mom. If it was possession what is the reason for possessing animals? I understand possessing people can cause disruption but significance of possessing a raccoon is pointless anyways
