Should i buy the new Samsung Galaxy S II even though i dont need it?

I'm completely bored with my current phone (HTC desire) and my contract still has nearly a year to run before i can upgrade. The new Samsung is probably the best phone on the market and i was thinking of buying one sim free even though this will cost me close to �500. Do people think i should just wait for my upgrade or shall i just got for it and buy something new?? Can anyone recommend the phone?
